This game is unusual because of its eight-by-eight square tableau, small deck, and two redeals. The game has two decks and a 30% chance of winning. It's played with two decks (excluding the twos through sixes), and your odds of victory are primarily determined by skill and luck.

How to play Strata Solitaire

Layout:

8 foundation piles: Construct in suit order from Ace to Sevens to Kings.

8 tableau piles: Alternate color build down. Only one card can be moved at a time. Any available card may fill a spot. At the start of the game, each pile is given 8 cards.

Stock: Stock There are two redeals. To redeal, click on the stock. The cards in the tableau are picked up and reshuffled.

Foundation:

There are eight foundation piles.

Any ace in the foundation may be transferred to any vacant pile.

A card may be added to a foundation pile if it is one higher than the pile's previous top card and is of the same suit. As a result, the only card that could be played on a J of hearts is a Q of hearts. There can be no more than 8 cards in a pile.

Cards cannot be taken from the foundation after they have been placed.

Tableau:

Splayed downhill, eight tableau piles of eight cards each. Every card is dealt face-up.

A card may be added to a tableau pile if it is one lower than the pile's previous top card and is of the opposing color. As a result, the cards that might be played on the J of spades are 10 of hearts or 10 of diamonds.

Cards on the tableau that are not covered by another card are free to be played onto the foundation or any other tableau pile.

Any card can fill an empty slot in the tableau.
